NextAero: Your Partner in Hydrogen Systems Engineering

At NextAero, we are actively contributing to the growing hydrogen economy by providing practical engineering solutions for a renewable future. Our team has hands-on experience in the lifecycle of hydrogen systems; From conceptual design and regulatory analysis to the fabrication and commissioning of complex, safety-critical infrastructure.

We have a proven track record of helping our clients tackle the challenges of developing systems for both high-pressure gaseous hydrogen (GH₂) and cryogenic liquid hydrogen (LH₂). We aim to be a helpful and reliable partner for your projects in aerospace, research, transportation, and energy.

Our Capability

Our expertise is built on a foundation of rigorous engineering, a strong focus on safety, and practical experience in managing hydrogen’s unique properties.

High-Pressure Gaseous Hydrogen (GH₂) Systems

We have direct experience in the design and construction of machinery for handling hydrogen gas at pressures up to 350 bar. Our work includes developing controlled systems for precise hydrogen dosing and pressure management, complete with integrated safety and control instrumentation. We can support projects from initial scoping and detailed CAD modelling through to subsystem testing and final commissioning.

Liquid Hydrogen (LH₂) Logistics & Handling

NextAero is actively developing its capabilities in the complex challenges of transporting, storing, and dispensing cryogenic LH2 at −253C. Our team conducts detailed supply chain studies, analysing logistics from production sites to points of use. We can perform technical-economic analyses, including boil-off and transfer loss calculations, to help develop efficient and cost-effective solutions for LH₂ handling. Our work covers designing storage depot concepts and developing procedures for safe transfer and dispensing.

A Strong Focus on Safety & Compliance

Safety is integral to our design process. We approach hydrogen systems engineering with a commitment to industry standards, such as ANSI/AIAA G-095A-2017 (Guide to Safety of Hydrogen and Hydrogen Systems). Our team is experienced in:

  • Conducting detailed Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Designing for hazardous area classifications and mitigating ignition sources.
  • Selecting materials to reduce the risk of hydrogen embrittlement.
  • Designing and integrating multi-layered safety systems, including automated fault responses and fire suppression.

Regulatory & Consultation Services

We provide practical guidance and consultation on the regulatory landscape governing hydrogen. Our team is familiar with the Australian Dangerous Goods (ADG) Code for transportation, state-based Worksafe codes for storage and handling, and CASA regulations for airside refuelling operations. We help our clients navigate requirements for site planning, licensing, and developing emergency response plans.
